New to creating videos...not sure what equipment I need for lighting/background/audio

I would like to put together a setup to record videos of myself talking. I have a Youtube channel that is growing and I want to make sure I have quality video production before I introduce myself talking (currently most of my videos are slideshows/stock video footage). I have 2 digital DSLR's: a Canon EOS Rebel T1i and a Canon EOS Rebel T3i (which has a microphone jack) and have stands for both. Now I'm looking to setup the background, lights and the right recording mic. I currently am considering a white background but probably leaning toward a natural environment which I think will look more professional as white backgrounds tend to get boring. I have my own office which isn't terribly large, but I can do whatever I want to the walls (paint them, etc.). I'm hoping to keep the budget under $500 USD and not sure where to even start. I see a lot of bundles on Amazon for lighting and backgrounds, but not sure if any of them are worth buying. I'd like to avoid a cheap setup as this is something I'll probably be using for a long time. Any feedback or suggestions you have to offer would be welcomed.
