videoproduction New Post

Hello all.I have just gotten into video making/editing. I shoot 1080p and I assumed for this reason the computing power wouldn't be much of an issue.I have 2 computer at avail: a 2017 iMac 27 inch (core i7, ssd etc) and a 2017 HP Spectre x360 with a Kaby Lake core i7.The Mac is shared with the family so I can't just use it indefinitely. I was hoping to do most of my editing on the laptop, but Premiere performance is not sluggish: is unusable.I made a 3 minute test clip (1080p) and changed the exposure... computer basically crashed. And this is just an example.I understand the laptop is not a beast (still, 8gb ram, ssd, quite recent core i7...) and especially it does not have a GPU, but I am wondering if there's anything in the Premiere configuration that is maybe set up wrong ?I would get a dedicated PC for video editing, but space is a massive concern so I was hoping I didn't need a dedicated machine unless I was doing 4k videos...In case buying (building) a desktop is the only option, I have a massive space constraint in the depth: the thing shouldn't be more than 30 cm long - but if I do build a dedicated PC, then I want something future proof (ie, editing 4K)any help?thank you! via /r/videoproduction https://www.reddit.com/r/videoproduction/comments/bdi3v9/i7_latop_unable_to_use_premiere_in_any_sensible/?utm_source=ifttt
